Connect Lumos to Google Search Console: GSC + AI Visibility

Merge GSC click data with AI visibility scores to find the pages where Google traffic and AI citations both fall short.

What is Google Search Console and what data does Lumos pull?

Google Search Console ( GSC ) is Google's free tool that shows you how your pages perform in Google Search โ€” which queries triggered impressions, how many clicks each page received, your average click-through rate, and your average ranking position. GSC data goes back 90 days and refreshes daily.

When you connect GSC to Lumos, Lumos pulls clicks, impressions, click-through rate, and average position per query and per page โ€” the same data available in the GSC Performance report. It then merges that data with Lumos's AI visibility scores, creating a combined view that neither tool can provide alone.

Why merging GSC with AI visibility matters

Here's the core insight: a page can rank on Google and still be invisible to AI engines โ€” and vice versa.

GSC tells you how you're doing in Google Search. Lumos tells you how you're doing in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity. The overlap between those two datasets reveals the highest-ROI opportunities in your content library:

  • High Google impressions, zero AI citations. These are your biggest fix opportunities. Google's crawler already knows the page exists and considers it relevant. AI engines don't cite it, which means it's likely failing on citability signals: missing specificity, no structured data, blocked by AI crawlers, or a meta description that's too generic to extract.
  • High AI citations, low Google clicks. The AI engines trust this page, but searchers aren't clicking from Google. This often points to a title tag or featured snippet issue โ€” fixable with one targeted edit.
  • Low on both. These pages need deeper content work before they'll move in either system.

Without the GSC integration, you're optimizing for AI visibility without knowing which pages already have Google's stamp of approval. With it, you have a triage layer that lets you focus first on pages where the fix has the widest leverage.

How the connection works

The connection uses Google's standard OAuth flow. Your Google credentials are never exposed to Lumos โ€” only an OAuth access token scoped to the GSC properties you select.

  1. Sign up for Lumos Pro. Start with the signup flow. The GSC integration is available on Lumos Pro and above. Pro starts with a 14-day no-credit-card trial.
  2. Navigate to Integrations. In your Lumos dashboard, go to Settings โ†’ Integrations โ†’ Google Search Console.
  3. Authorize via OAuth. Click "Connect GSC". You'll be redirected to Google's OAuth consent screen. Log in with the Google account that has access to your GSC property, and approve read-only access for Lumos.
  4. Select your properties. If your Google account has access to multiple GSC properties (domains and URL prefixes), you'll see a property picker. Select the ones you want Lumos to pull data from.
  5. Wait for the first sync. Lumos pulls the last 90 days of GSC data on first connection. This takes a few minutes for most sites. After that, data refreshes daily.

What new analyses become available

Once GSC is connected, Lumos unlocks two dashboards that aren't available without it:

Visibility Gap Finder. A ranked list of your pages sorted by the gap between GSC impressions and AI citation rate. The pages at the top of the list are the ones where fixing AI citability will have the most leverage โ€” because Google traffic already validates the topic.

Google Clicks vs AI Citations chart. A scatter plot that places every page in your domain on two axes: Google click volume (from GSC) and AI citation share (from Lumos). Pages in the top-left quadrant (high AI citations, low clicks) are candidates for Google optimization. Pages in the bottom-right quadrant (high clicks, low AI citations) are your priority citability fixes.

Security notes

The OAuth token Lumos holds is read-only. It grants access only to the GSC Performance report โ€” Lumos cannot view, modify, or delete any property settings, submit sitemaps, or take any action in your GSC account. You can revoke access at any time from your Google Account settings (under Third-party apps with account access) or from Lumos Settings โ†’ Integrations. Revocation is immediate. Lumos does not resell GSC data, and data is stored encrypted at rest in your organization's Lumos workspace.

FAQ

Why connect GSC with Lumos?

GSC shows you which pages Google's crawler indexed and how many clicks they get from SERP. Lumos shows you which pages AI engines cite. The overlap โ€” pages with high impressions but zero AI citations โ€” is your highest-ROI content opportunity. Neither tool surfaces this alone.

What GSC data does Lumos pull?

Lumos pulls clicks, impressions, click-through rate, and average position per query and per page โ€” the same data available in the GSC Performance report โ€” going back 90 days. It refreshes daily.

Is this a paid Lumos feature?

Yes โ€” the GSC integration is available on Lumos Pro and above. Free accounts can view their dashboard but can't connect external data sources. Pro starts with a 14-day no-credit-card trial.

Is the connection secure?

The connection uses Google's standard OAuth flow, which grants Lumos read-only access to your GSC property. Lumos never sees your Google credentials โ€” only the OAuth token scoped to the properties you select. You can revoke access from your Google account settings at any time.

Which GSC properties can I connect?

Any GSC property where your Google account has at least Restricted User access. If you manage multiple domains, you can connect them individually and view combined data in Lumos's cross-domain dashboard.
