Traditional SEO scores pages on what Google's crawler can parse and rank. AI search is different. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity each fetch a tiny shortlist of pages to ground their answers on โ usually three to seven URLs per response โ and the page either makes that shortlist or it does not. The Lumos Page Citability Checker scores how likely yours is to be picked.
In our 2026 study of pages cited by the four big AI engines, 73% scored 80 or higher on the Lumos citability rubric. Pages below 60 rarely showed up at all, even when the prose was excellent. The rubric is not a stylistic judgement โ it is the structural signal AI engines actually weight.
What you see inside Lumos
The preview is the actual Lumos page-citability audit run on one of our own blog posts. The same audit runs against any URL on your site after signup.
- The score is a 0โ100 composite of six citability dimensions. Pages above 80 are AI-citable; below 60 rarely get picked.
- The sub-scores break the composite down by dimension: schema, meta tags, heading hierarchy, external citations, AI crawler access, and freshness signals.
- The fixes list turns each gap into a specific, prioritized edit โ high/medium/low by score impact.
The full Lumos platform fetches your URL live, parses the rendered HTML (not just source), runs the full rubric, and scores every page on your domain on a schedule.
Common citability mistakes
Optimizing for Google's Rich Results test only. Google's validator confirms schema is valid. It does not tell you which schemas AI engines weight or whether your headings are AI-friendly.
Treating one high score as proof of citability. A 90 on a single page does not mean your brand is cited. AI engines pick across your whole site. Score five to ten priority pages, not one.
Ignoring crawler accessibility. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, and PerplexityBot must all be allowed. A perfect content score with blocked crawlers is zero citations.
Skipping external citations. AI engines reward pages that link out to authoritative sources. A page with zero outbound citations reads as low-evidence.
Letting dateModified drift. A dateModified that has not moved in eighteen months tells AI engines the page is abandoned. Update it whenever you refresh the prose.
Next steps
- Look at the preview to see how the rubric reads.
- Sign up for a free Lumos scan to score your top ten pages.
- Fix the high-priority items first, then re-score to confirm the lift.
- Track citation share in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity over four to six weeks โ that is the metric that matters.
Citability is one input. Pages that score well start showing up in AI answers, and AI answers are increasingly where buyers form their shortlist. This tool is a one-shot way to see where a page stands. The Lumos platform is for keeping it there.

FAQ
What is a citability score?
It is a 0-100 score that estimates how likely AI engines are to cite a page when answering buyer queries. The rubric combines Schema.org markup, meta tags, heading hierarchy, external citations, AI crawler accessibility, and freshness signals.
Why does citability matter?
AI engines pick a small number of pages to ground each answer on. Pages that score well on the citability rubric get cited far more often. Citability is the AI-search equivalent of a page-level SEO audit, but tuned for ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity rather than Google blue links.
Is this the same as the full Lumos page audit?
No โ this page shows a static, illustrative result scored on one of our own blog posts. The full Lumos audit fetches your URL live, parses its HTML, runs the full rubric, and surfaces the exact fixes for your stack.
Why is the demo scored on this page?
Showing the rubric on one of our own published pages keeps the example transparent โ you can open the source URL and see exactly which signals drove each sub-score. No customer data is exposed in the demo.
What can I do with the result?
Use the breakdown to prioritize fixes. High-priority fixes (missing Schema.org, broken crawler access) move the needle most. Then re-score after each change to confirm the lift.
